Overnight Oats

I realize that oatmeal may not be your favorite, but it is such a wonderful grain to add to your life. There is no wrong way to make it. Why take the time to make your own vs buying the pre-packaged? Take a look at the sugar grams. Upwards of 20% of the serving is sugar! We can do better than that and it will taste better as well.

There are many options, but if you start with the base, you make different flavors and you’ll never get bored.

1/3 to 1/2 cup liquid such as dairy milk, almond, cashew or coconut milk

1/3 to 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/3 to 1/2 cup yogurt, plain optional

1 teaspoon chia seeds, or ground flax seeds, optional but highly recommended

1/2 banana, mashed, optional

Serving suggestions: fruit (fresh or dried), nuts, nut butter, powdered nut butter, seeds, protein powder, granola, coconut, spices, citrus zest, honey and vanilla extract

Mix all but optional ingredients in a glass jar, stir and place in refrigerator overnight. In the morning add more liquid if needed.

You have all day to burn off the carbs and your body will start working for you immediately.
