Summer time and the living is easy. Time to slow down and enjoy what surrounds us. Another term: the dog days of summer. Laying low and conserving energy in the heat of the day. Time to kick back and relax a little more, spend time with children that are out of school for the summer. Time spent with family we don’t often see at family reunions.
I love watching the parks at this time of year and watching families gather, share stories, games and laughs with each other. Everyone brings a favorite dish as grills are fired up and delicious smells rise from the heat. Sweat drips from the foreheads of children as they play games with friends and cousins, while adults share stories from the year and reacquaint themselves with family members.
Keep family members safe from food poisoning by bringing dishes that can be safe in the heat. Nothing destroys a wonderful day faster than food poisoning. If you food is cold and needs to stay cold, make sure to have plenty of cooling packets or ice to keep it cold. Even hot food can’t be left out in the heat.
