Celebrating My Birthday

Welcome to my birthday party! You didn’t even know you were invited! It’s a party and you don’t even have to get all dolled up to enjoy it. Time to sit back, relax, have a laugh or two and enjoy. Kick off your shoes and get comfortable.

I watch many of my friends on Facebook celebrate their birthday months. It always brings a smile to my face to see them celebrating the light they bring to this Earth. I’ve shied away from all that for many years. Well, not any longer. It is time to celebrate the joy I bring to those around me.

Today, I will share with you the little gifts I will give to myself. I live by the 80-20 rule. 80% of the time I live, work, exercise and eat the way I should so that 20% of the time I get to savor the flavors of life I was meant to enjoy. Today is a 20% day!!!!

My morning will begin, like all other workdays. My incredible smoothie of almond/cashew/coconut milk, plain nonfat greek yogurt, my custom nutrition blend of Thrive, cinnamon, Dr. Axe bone broth protein scoop, frozen mixed berries and a bit of honey.

Since I spend my day training, I have little time for meals. I prep for my week and carry nuts, fruit and squeezable protein packets with me. May not be the prettiest of eats, but it keeps me going and gives my body the nutrition it needs to maintain the level of health I want to maintain. It also allows me the truly enjoy my birthday dinner!!!

I’ve always loved seafood. As the story goes, when my father took our family to California when I was 16, we went to Fisherman’s Wharf. Having never been properly introduced to “How to read a menu?” i.e. look at the price, my father says to get what you want. AWESOME!!!! I go for the Mahi Mahi. My dad gets a cheeseburger because my meal was so expensive! My mother still laughs about that to this day.

In honor of that meal and my love of seafood, I am taking myself to Rich and Rich’s. A friend of mine told me about it and I have not stopped thinking about it. I will enjoy every morsel and celebrate the life I’ve been given so far and continue to build the life of my dreams.

Today, I thank you for being at my party. It’s always important to stop and savor the hard work and accomplishments. After all, celebrations are a part of life.

I’ll return to your regularly scheduled recipe next Friday!
